Anna Mae Bullock was born on November 26, 1939 in Nutbush, Tennessee. Her parents were Zelma and Floyd Richard Bullock. In 1950, when Anna Mae was 10 years old, her mother left for St. Louis without saying a work. Only a few years later, her father left as well to be with his new wife. Being deserted by both of her parents, Anna Mae and her older sister Alline moved in with their grandmother. Unfortunately, in 1956, her grandmother passed away. Then, they moved in with their mother, hoping to close the separation that they had endured. While living with her mother, Alline snuck her younger sister into clubs so they could see Ike Turner and the Kings of Rhythm. Eventually, she began going on stage and singing with the band. She was experienced in performing from singing in her church choir. Ike Turner saw some potential in her because he asked her to go on tour with the group. Her mother did not like the idea, but she said yes. In 1957, Anna Mae graduated from Sumner High School. She was pregnant with her first child during the time. He was named Raymond Craig and his father was a band member named Raymond Hill.

In 1958, Anna Mae recorded her first song "Box Top." Ike and Anna Mae began connecting on an intimate level, and soon she found out that she was pregnant. On October 27, 1960, Ronald Renelle was born. Around the same time, "Fool in Love" was recorded. The song was a hit, and Ike gave Anna Mae the name Tina Turner. In 1962, Tina and Ike got married in Mexico, but it was never legalized. Meanwhile, Ike started beating Tina violently. When Tina began getting song requests, Ike became furious and the abuse got worse. In 1966, "River-Deep Mountain High" was recorded, without Ike Turner. Ike was always around other women, had a drug problem, and beat the Ikettes as well, so Tina was starting to get depressed. She even tried to take her own life away. In 1971, "Proud Mary" was recorded. The song was a hit and more people requested her work, she was in the movie "Tommy" in 1974. Finally, Tina Turner stood up for herself and vowed never to sing with Ike again. Their divorce was finalized in 1978.

At first, being on her own with no money was hard. She did, however, have her name. When she finally met someone who would look out for her best interest. In the early 1980s, Roger Davies of Capitol Records wanted to sign her. She was in her early-40s so it was hard at work. Her motivation was trying to be successful after deciding to leave Ike Turner. After she did a remake of "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green, her career as a soloist started off. When "What's Love Got to do With it?" came out, it was number one. She ended up making other movies such as, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. She made five albums and toured around the world. In 2000, she announced that the Twenty Four Seven Tour would be her last big production tour. However, in 2008 she toured the world yet again. She has received eight grammy awards and now lives in Switzerland with her long time boyfriend Erwin Bache. Tina Turner's legacy will continue through her albums and being in the Top 100 Charts. She has taught myself and all women to have faith and stick up for themselves. She is worthy of the recognition because she worked so hard to be known and end up where she is today.
